Fig is a mother!!

As most of you that follow us on any social media page will know, our Jonny's Sister HQ dog Fig was pregnant. We are proud to announce that she has popped and is a Mother to 4 girls & 4 boys!!! Yippee... She is doing very well and is back to her normal size! (Lucky ey!)

Check out the year we had in 2013!!

Looking back on 2013 it felt like it flew by with nothing major happening. Yet when we asked around the office for blog contributions to see what we had done, it seems that we did loads! So here is a brief run down…

January saw Hannah & Shannon off to London for a jolly as a big thank you 
for their hard work over Christmas

February saw us successfully fight off someone who tried to clone our company

March saw us drawing up plans for the new studio

April saw the filming begin for our first ever video

May saw us designing our first product that would totally bomb!

June saw Hannah gain her apprenticeship NVQ level 3 in business administration

July saw our company video finally go live

August saw our new studio finally finished and ready to move into

September saw Jane going to 10 Downing St as part of a team to discuss small businesses

October saw us at Country Living and then straight on to Spirit of Christmas

November saw us pick up the ‘Best British Website Award’ from GWG in London

December saw the hugest and busiest Christmas we have ever had

Valentine’s Day….going out?? Staying in??

I feel totally embarrassed to admitting that I was one of those girls who was proposed to on Valentine’s Day. OK it is now out in the open and I am already feeling better!

There is one night in the whole year that I hate, and I mean really hate, going to a restaurant on and that is February 14^th. I don’t know what gets into some restaurants but they just don’t seem to get it right, in fact some manage to get it incredibly wrong. From heart balloons tied to the back of your chair (yes it is true and I have sat on one once), to the dreaded so called romantic piped muzak being played throughout the dimly lit evening. They cram in as many tables à deux as they can possibly can which means that no matter how quiet you mutter sweeting nothings to each other the next door couple hear the whole lot. Then there is the food & drink from the set ‘Love Menu’. From the tepid and barely fizzing fizz with a mushy strawberry at the bottom of the glass to heart shaped food that follows. I can happily eat a heart shaped asparagus mousse but heart shaped potatoes, vegetables and salmon en croute is a step too far for me. Then of course you have the man that has been planning his move for months.  He is so in love with the beautiful woman opposite that he loses all sense of inhibition, grabs the wilting red carnation from the vase, leaps from the table and falls on one knee (which forces his outstretched leg to go under neighbouring table). The restaurant goes quiet, the tension mounts, everyone has their fork halfway between the plate and their mouth as they wait for girl to answer…..

The Good Web Guide Awards

Good web guide awards

As most of you know, we are located in a really rural situation. Gone are the heady days of high heels and shoulder pads when we lived and worked in London, dressing up for me now means a recently hosed down pair of wellies.

So, it was not without a little trepidation, that I ventured up to London with my husband  in tow to attend the Good Web Guide Awards Reception as we had been shortlisted for Best of British Website.  I am not even going to mention where my little black dress and smart court shoes came from….but suffice it to say that they were not mine.

A long term friend of mine lent us her pied a terre on Wimpole Mews (dead posh) and it was from there that I hobbled in my size 4 shoes (I have size 5 feet) gasping for air in my size 8 dress (I am a ‘good’ in fact ‘really good’ size 10) to the venue in Albermarle Street.

The reception was great fun where we caught up with old friends, made some new ones and were finally able to put faces to some virtual friends.  The drums rolled and sure enough Jonny’s Sister was crowned Best British Website 2013 (I am hardly going to blog about an awards ceremony if we did not win am I?!). I breathed in even harder,  lifted my poor bruised feet and collected a rather lovely  inscribed glass award.

After a late supper,  we headed back to  Wimpole Mews. I could take it no longer so ……carried my shoes and unzipped my dress under my coat……what bliss!

Note to self: I must remember to make some slightly rounder and larger footed friends for next year.

Famous for a day by Jane

The week before last I was invited up to 10 Downing Street as part of a team of small businesses to discuss ways that the government can help us. Apart from being hugely flattered, I had never been to Number 10 and was dying to see inside. After meeting up with everyone at the Horse Guards Hotel (lovely hotel so long as you don't get landed with the bill) we all trooped over to Number 10. We all felt very smug as we filed past all the tourists and through the gates, all desperately trying to look as though this was 'just another meeting with Dave'!

As you go through the door, you realise just what a huge building it is. Full of wonderful antique furniture and paintings. In fact in one room they have 2 Turners over a fireplace.

The meeting was very good, some excellent points were raised and we really felt that they were listening. After the meeting we had a tour of the place which was a mixture of beautiful formal rooms and old rooms that hadn't seen a lick of paint since Gladstone.

We managed a pic outside with Daniel Korski (Special Adviser to the PM) which was good as we were originally told that it might not be possible. Sadly I look like Daniel's mother who dropped by on her way to the shops!

All in all a great day and fingers crossed that some of our suggestions are put into action.
